Frequently asked questions

Which barcode format should I use?+

EAN-13 for international retail products, UPC-A for US/Canada retail, Code 128 for shipping and logistics (supports full ASCII), Code 39 for internal inventory and asset tracking (alphanumeric only).

Can I use these barcodes commercially?+

The barcode image is yours to use. However, for retail products, you need a GS1 company prefix to get valid EAN/UPC numbers. The barcode format is free; the number assignment requires a GS1 membership.

What is the difference between a barcode and a QR code?+

Barcodes are one-dimensional (1D) and store limited data (8-20 characters typically). QR codes are two-dimensional (2D) and can store URLs, text, and contact info (up to 4,296 characters). Use barcodes for product identification, QR codes for linking to digital content.

Why does my barcode not scan?+

Common causes: too small (minimum 25mm wide for Code 128), insufficient contrast (needs dark bars on light background), or damaged/distorted print. Test scanning before mass-printing.
