Frequently asked questions

What formats can I convert from?+

Any format your browser can decode: MP3, M4A (AAC), OGG (Vorbis/Opus), FLAC, WEBM. Chrome, Edge, Firefox, and Safari all support the same core set. If the browser cannot decode the file, the tool reports the error.

Why WAV instead of another format?+

WAV is the universal uncompressed format — every audio editor, DAW, and speech-to-text engine accepts it. It's lossless, uses standard 16-bit PCM encoding, and works on every platform. For MP3 output you need a WASM codec; that's coming in a later version.

Is the audio uploaded anywhere?+

No. The entire process runs in your browser. The Web Audio API decodes the file into raw samples, and a small WAV encoder writes those samples back out as a blob you download. Zero network requests during conversion.

How big will the WAV file be?+

About 10 MB per minute of stereo 44.1kHz 16-bit audio (the CD standard). An MP3 is usually 10-20% of that size because MP3 is lossy. The converted WAV keeps 100% of the decoded quality but is larger by design.

What sample rate and bit depth does the output use?+

The sample rate is preserved from the source file (44.1kHz, 48kHz, etc.). Bit depth is always 16-bit PCM, which is the most compatible setting for virtually all audio software.

Can I convert multiple files at once?+

This tool handles one file at a time. For batch conversion, use the Audio Format Converter which accepts any input and is optimized for quick single-file work — or queue the same tool multiple times.
